
Nayoung Barbosa
Piano Instructor – Southlake Studio
Nayoung was born in South Korea where she began taking piano lessons at the age of five. She moved to the states at the age of eleven and continued her studies in piano. Although her main instrument is piano, Nayoung also plays the organ, harpsichord and violin. Throughout her high school years, Nayoung competed in numerous piano competitions, one of her highest achievements including being featured in the Houston Chronicle with Lang Lang, a world-renowned pianist. Aside from performing as a soloist, Nayoung was a member of the orchestra through her high school and college years.
Nayoung began teaching piano at age eighteen. She attended Baylor University where she received her Master of Music in Piano Performance and Pedagogy. While studying at Baylor, she had the opportunity to be a member of the Music Teachers National Association, where she served as a president of the Baylor chapter. Her experience at Baylor included performing in recitals, concerts and masterclasses, as well as giving private and group piano lessons. Her teaching experience involved working with a variety of ages, ranging from five-year-olds to undergraduate students. She based her graduate thesis on teaching intermediate students and has become very passionate about working with children.
